Steppy 1U/3U v1.2.1

To get the effect your looking for you could set your track to 12.5%, and all your steps to 100% except the ones you want at 12.5%, leave them “off”.

you can use the copy-paste functionality to achieve this pretty quick.

Oh great! This helps to understand.

Thanks for the killer update!

One more question.

On 1.2.1 when I send a trigger from my Mutant Brain, to the reset input on Steppy (upon hitting stop on my Octatrack). Sometimes the playhead on Steppy stays in its current position, then when I hit play, it jumps back to step 1 and plays correctly. Other times, it immediately jumps to step 1 upon hitting stop, and then when I hit play again, it does not play the trig on step 1 and begins playing out of sync.

Any thoughts?

I seem to remember the Octatrack doesn’t send a MIDI RESET unless you hit stop twice. Does that make a difference to how Steppy responds? I’m assuming you’re connecting the Mutant Brain Reset out to Steppy’s RESET in?

Is your clock also coming from the Mutant brain?

I think I might have solved my issues. I posted this same thing on a thread over at Elektronauts, but wanted to close the loop here also. This was a related issues I was having, but my solution solved both the timing and the octave shifted sounds I was running into.

I have my Octatrack running into a midi quad thru, and then into the Mutant Brain. Mutant brain has two gate outs going to Pam’s to control the Run and Clock inputs. I was then using the outs on the Pam’s to control my Steppy and my Scales (trig in on the Scales).

I also have a Stop event set up on some of the Mutant Brain outs to trigger the reset on both my Steppy and Mimetic Digitalis.

My issue was, when I would Stop and then start up again, I would get a strange sound on step one. Or sometimes the sound would come when hitting stop… like my Scales was dropping by an octave or two.

I just tried setting up with clock coming directly out of MB, instead of routing through Pam’s. And then putting Pam’s into run/reset mode. So Pam’s never actually stops, but simply gets reset on Start.

This may have solved my issue, because I’m using a channel on Pam’s to offset Scales, using it as a make shift dynamic octave switch. And when I was also using Pam’s as an intermediary, to clock everything, I think there might be a micro second delay that it introduces in the chain.

Interesting to note that the default trigger length on the MB surgery, is 15ms. Wonder if that is too long?

TLDR, I may have solved it!

Hi, I was planning on buying a 1u Steppy this weekend at my local dealer and I am very excited about this update, particularly for the per step additions. However, I am very new to modular having just bought a Intellijel 4u Palette to start assembling a case to accompany my semi modulars, and I wanted to ask what accessories I will need to upgrade the firmware. I saw a reference to a USB ISP cable, so I am assuming I need one of those but want to make sure I buy the right thing if that is the case. I didn’t see any further information about this in the manual so I assume my question is a completely newbie one. But I really appreciate anyone who could link me to a recommended USB ISP cable if that’s what I need, or anything else beyond that. I have a Windows 10 machine (with an AMD FX 8320 processor if that helps). Thank you very much, and I’m really looking forward to getting the steppy (and an Intellijel Quad VCA soon too!).

You’ll need an everyday USB A to USB Micro B cable and a computer. The USB ISP is not needed for the Steppy.

Also, the Steppy is one of my favorite modules. Especially after the new firmware. I think you’ll enjoy it very much. It pairs well with the palette.

Thank you for the quick response! That sounds very easy. I just ordered a Pachinko to pair with it as my randomizer. I imagine this is going to be very productively fun!~

Curious where you saw the reference to USB ISP in regards to Steppy? Do you have a link handy? Just want to make sure there is no misinformation out there.

I think I googled Intellijel update firmware and ended up on this page without much context.

Awesome, thank you. I’ll put some clarifications in there.

Hi, another silly question. I just got the steppy yesterday and am about to attempt to update its firmware but I do have one other question that I’m not sure of after looking at the instructions. Do I do this while it’s hooked up to its case with the power on the case turned on? I ask because it says power it up in bootloader mode which I read is done by holding down the red button, but it wasn’t clear to me if this is to be done without the case and that it would powered through the USB connection. I don’t want to risk it and try anything before I know for sure. Definitely hyped to get this installed today and start composing! Thank you!

It’s powered through the case.

Loving this.

Have you seen Steppy - feature request: add clock multiplication per track by any chance?

Yes, connect the USB to you module and computer while the case is powered off, but still connected to the module. The hold the red button on the module while turning on the case. then hit update!

We see/log all the requests :). Multiplication would require some slightly more drastic internal timing changes, and was out of the scope of this update.

We would consider it again in the future.

Alright. Thanks

Thanks. What do I do if Windows never pops up with the dialogue saying it’s trying to find a driver?
