Accio Tetrapad!

All right, two weeks in and I love my Tetrapad more and more every single day. It’s only March, but I’m pretty sure this is my Module of the Year. I hope to have my second one next week, and I’m building a slim 40HP skiff for the pair. Well done, Intellijel.

Here’s my dual Tetrapad case. A pair of Tetrapads is a beautiful controller. I use them in conjunction with Boss Bow Tie in the main case for generative melodies and sequencing. The basic technique is to use one of the Tetrapads in Voltages Mode, with each output connected to an input of Boss Bow Tie. On the other Tetrapad, I made a custom scale that addresses the Boss Bow Tie to select a different connection with each pad.

Another common use case is to use one Tetrapad for the note and the other for transposition. In this case, I’m using Pittsburgh Distro’s unity mixer.

I’ve really just scratched the surface, but I’ve decided that two Tetrapads is about four times as good as one Tetrapad.

Beautiful! But where will you put the expander?

Yeah, I figured that somebody would mention that. Once I know the details on the expander (HP size, capabilities), I can decide if I need it. If I do, it only takes a few hours to build another case. But my main objective was to have a controller, and I don’t feel like I need more sequencing. My view right now is that Boss Bow Tie is the Tetrapad expander. That combo is just ridiculously deep.

That said, I can’t wait to see it!

I considered creating an “Accio Tetrapad Expander” thread, but figured the future would prefer that everything stay together.

So now that NAMM announcements have come and gone (unless you’ve got something else up your robotic sleeves) when might we get glimpses of the Tetrapad Expander ? Superbooth ?

We’ll have something at Synthplex

Three… more… days… How about a teaser ? Just a little one

I’ve been monitoring the interwebs but have yet to see any actual demos of the Tete… Am I not looking in the right place ?? Are we waiting for the Divkidz and Sonic State guys to post videos .?.

We thought we’d see a few more people filming at Synthplex, but there was not much in the way of youtubers there.

We’ll have some demos of our own when the software gets closer.

Any Questions?

I’ve had a look at the video attached by @ohexoh and that answers a fair bit. What I saw was

  • CV recording (off the pads)
  • CV recording of external CV (e.g. from Planar)

I guess I’m wondering whether it can act as a quantized CV sequencer or a trigger / gate recorder. Can you record steps entered via the knobs or is it all “live recording?”. Can you clock each “channel” independently ? And I only saw 3 channels of CV recording… Is there something special going on on the 4th pad ?

At its base (and what we’ve revealed so far), the Tête loops or sequences the data from the Tetrapad.

The looper can be synced with a clock or use its internal clock. The sequencer (Voltages/Notes Modes only) advances with the clock, or at a multiplied or divided rate. In Combo mode, the Tête records the pad data (position and pressure of all 4 pads); in Voltages Mode, the zone #; and in Notes Mode the 4 Pitches, Gate, Trig, Position and Pressure.

The Tête also adds an extra row of “keys” to “Keyboard Mode” (selectable, 4/8/12 keys) and combines all the original Keyboard and Chord Modes into a single mode called Notes. It increases Voltage mode zones from 8 up to 12 or 16

It also add modulation with the XYZ inputs on each of the Tetrapad modes.

Length Limits are only limited by SD card size.

It’s not connected to planar 2, although it could be done with firmware updates.

It’s not currently recording CV from other modules.

This sounds absolutely perfect for what I’m looking for, especially the updated notes / chord modes. The Tetrapad has basically replaced my regular keyboard as my go-to method of sequencing, but being able to record the cv instead of just the audio will be a huge improvement. Keep up the good work!

It sounds super great.

Can you clock the lfos now?

What are the possible mod destinations?

How does the sequencer work? I guess you can see/select the steps on the screen and enter values with the tetrapad? What is the max length of steps and can you sequence things that would be controlled by the encoders on the tetrapad like octave and chord inversion?

Can’t wait to try it out.

Can you clock the lfos now?

Clocked LFOs planned

What are the possible mod destinations?

Not 100% decided, will be specific to the mode and/or sequencer/looper

How does the sequencer work?

currently 101-style, details of the step seqeuncer are still being worked out

What is the max length of steps

currently capped at 1024 for ui reasons, but theoretically, no limit. Looper works differently.

can you sequence things that would be controlled by the encoders on the tetrapad like octave and chord inversion?

Kind of, in Notes mode, it is sequencing pitches, so the inverted or octave shifted pitches would be recorded for the step.

Where is the Tête manual. Where it the Tête.

The Tete manual is being written.

Any ETA for the Tetrapad? Would love to add this to my current setup.
